50th Anniversary

Get wild and creative with a variety of different activities for all the family. Make a cake at the Great Birdy Bakeoff, get hands on with tools in our Construction Zone and learn some bushcraft skills at our Forest School.

Perhaps you’d like to challenge your family to an Obstacle Course, play in the Giant Sand Pit or get creative with some natural printmaking? There will be lots of different creative and nature themed activities that will help you to work towards your Get Wild badge, click here for more details about our celebration badge!

Find out about our conservation projects, take part in fantastic Wildlife activities and shhh you might even catch a glimpse of some native creatures!

Life beneath the Surface

Life beneath the Surface

Location: Riverside Walk

Time: All day

Take a close up look at the creatures that live in the River Trent. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust ecologists will be on hand to help you identify and observe live creatures freshly caught from (and to be safely returned to) the river.

The Forest School

The Forest School

Location: Outdoor Classroom

Time: All day

Get Wild in our woodland classroom where you can climb trees, build dens, play on slacklines, cook on the campfire, make a woodalion and whittle shapes from natural materials.

Birdy Bake-off

The Great Birdy Bake-Off

Location: Upper Park Bank

Time: All day

A little birdy told us…they wanted to have their cake and eat it, too! Squash and a squidge a mmmasterpiece for wildlife at our Great Birdy Bake-Off station (and pop it in a party bag to take home for your own feathered friends).

This year we are running the Get Wild badge for the first time, an exciting challenge where you need to complete 50 wild activities in 2019 to earn yourself a badge. The Get Wild station will have a variety of exciting nature based activities for you to have a go at while being able to work towards your badge. Join us to Get Wild and sign up for your chance to earn a badge.

Construction zone

Construction Zone

Location: Lower Park Bank

Time: All day

Build your own creation using real tools and materials. We provide the equipment and you provide the ideas and the skills.  All we ask is that you create safely and our staff will be on hand to show you techniques to use the tools appropriately.  Dens, ships, cars, balancing toys, musical instruments – the possibilities are endless.  Just bring your ideas (and at least one adult to follow your instructions!)

Come along and take part in some of our birthday party activities, will you be a wild child of the woods? A tree fairy? Or fancy going on a teddy bear’s picnic?

Busy bee beach

Busy Bee Beach

Location: Boardwalk

Time: All day

Dig, play and relax in the beach by the lake! If you can find a busy bee in hidden in the sand you will win a packet of seeds to take home!

Wilder Staffordshire Wishing Tree

Wilder Staffordshire Wishing Tree

Location: Lower Park Bank

Time: All day

Come and get dressed up as a woodland creature and make a wish for the future of Staffordshire’s wildlife. Hang it on your local wildlife charity’s wishing tree and we will use your suggestions to inform our future startegies at Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

Obstacle Course

Obstacle Course

Location: Upper Park Bank

Time: All day

Head on up to the obstacle course where you can crawl like a caterpillar, balance like a bird, squelch like a pig or clamber like a mountain goat! You will get muddy (that’s the best bit!) a change of clothes is advised.

Giant Water Slide

Location: Upper Park Bank

Time: All day

Join us on Park Bank for our biggest, water slide yet! Suitable for children and their grown ups, how soggy will you get? (we recommend waterproofs or a change of clothes!)

Yoga Squirrels

Yoga Squirrels

Location: Temple Lake/Badger Wood

Time: Various times

Try out our brand new Yoga Squirrels activity, stretch, meditate and get in touch with nature. There will be regular taster sessions throughout the day at the Quiet Space Tipi.

Artist Activities

Location: Across the site

Time: All day

Dancing, drumming, sculpture, painting, natural crafts and lots more activities will on offer on the day and included in the price of your ticket.

Children of the Forest

Location: Badger Wood

Time: 12pm and 1pm

Look out for the performance of the Children of the Forest, an exciting art commission created by Jo Loki with Redbrook Heyes Community Primary School. Plus create some nature inspired artwork yourself at Jo’s workshop at 1pm.
